Ebenthal Castle
Ebenthal Castle is located near Ebenthal in Carinthia, southeast of Klagenfurt. The building was constructed by Christoph von Neuhaus in 1566 below Greifenfels Castle, which had been in the possession of the Lords of Neuhaus since the early 15th century. Archduke Charles II confirmed the ownership of the castle, which was named Ebenthal, in a document dated September 14, 1567.
In the 17th century, a third floor was added, and two turret bay windows with onion domes were erected. In the 18th century, the castle was rebuilt by the Counts of Goëss, who had acquired the castle and lordship in 1704.
Architectural Description+
The castle is an almost rectangular, three-story building. It has eleven and six window axes respectively. The castle is surrounded by a large park, which was laid out in the 18th century.
The facade features a large pilaster order. On the west front are two corner risalits and a central gable with coats of arms, while on the east front there is a classical portico on pillars with a balustrade.
On the second floor, there is a large hall with frescoes by Josef Ferdinand Fromiller from 1748. Although the castle was damaged by major fires in 1919 and 1948, it was completely restored.

The castle is owned by the Goëss family. The park can be visited.
