Ebenthal Castle

The construction of Ebenthal Castle was undertaken in 1566 by Christoph von Neuhaus. The Neuhaus family had already owned Greifenfels Castle, situated above, since the early 15th century. Archduke Karl II formally confirmed the ownership of the newly named Ebenthal Castle in a document dated September 14, 1567. In the 17th century, the building was expanded with a third floor and the addition of two turret bay windows with onion domes. The Counts of Goëss, who acquired the castle and its dominion in 1704, extensively rebuilt it in the 18th century. Although the castle was damaged by major fires in 1919 and 1948, it was always fully restored.

Ebenthal Castle is situated in Ebenthal in Carinthia, in the district of Klagenfurt Land, in the federal state of Carinthia, Austria. It lies at an elevation of approximately 423 meters above sea level.
