Ebenthal Castle, also known as Coburg Castle, is a Baroque castle complex whose origins lie in a medieval fortress. Its current appearance is largely shaped by the 18th century. It is located in the market town of Ebenthal in the Gänserndorf district of Lower Austria.

History+

The existence of a medieval fortification in Ebenthal is documented by a deed from 1371, which refers to a “Veste Ebenthal”. Another document from 1478 describes the castle as “desolate and broken”. After a long period without written mention, the castle reappears at the end of the 17th century. The first pictorial representation can be found in Georg Matthäus Vischer's castle book from 1672. The current structure was largely built in the first half of the 18th century. In 1732, Andreas Josef Graf Koháry acquired the property and had it expanded into a country estate.
