Eberhardsreuth Castle

The origins of Eberhardsreuth date back to 1263, when the Bishop of Passau, Otto von Lonsdorf, granted an Eberhartsdorf as a fief to Heinrich von Harchaim. The castle itself, built in the 13th century, was owned by various noble families and individuals, including the Meilenhauser, Thumayr, and Schilten. In 1582, the estate included not only the castle but also a court tavern, a brewery, and an administrative building. During the Thirty Years' War, the village was devastated by Swedish troops in 1648. In the 19th century, the castle changed hands multiple times again, including in 1864 to the Passau merchant Franz Xaver Rosenberger. The castle chapel of Maria Himmelfahrt, originally from the 18th century, was expanded in 1820 and consecrated in 1841.
