In Dresden-Loschwitz, on the right bank of the Elbe, stands Eckberg Castle, one of the Elbe castles. This Neo-Gothic building, distinguished by its structure, is an example of 19th-century architecture and now houses an exclusive hotel.

History+

The history of Eckberg Castle began in 1859 when the English merchant Johann Daniel Souchay acquired the Eckberg vineyard in Loschwitz. He commissioned the architect Christian Friedrich Arnold, a student of Semper, to build a Neo-Gothic castle in place of an older country house from 1675. Simultaneously, the 15-hectare landscape garden was designed by Hermann Sigismund Neumann, who was already responsible for the gardens of the neighboring Albrechtsberg and Lingnerschloss castles. Numerous outbuildings such as stables, coach houses, and a glasshouse were also built. In 1883, the estate passed to Consul General Arthur Bruno Wunderlich. After his death in 1909, it was rented to the confectionery manufacturer Josef Weiser.
