History+

The beginnings of Efrizweiler Castle can be traced back to the 10th century. From this early period, the two-meter-thick walls, constructed from boulders, and the large vaulted cellar are still preserved. The first documented mention of a castle at this location occurred in 1166, when it was owned by a certain Efrid von Wilare. In the 15th century, the castle belonged to the Bessrer patrician family from Ravensburg.
