History+
The construction of Egeberg Castle took place between 1899 and 1901, commissioned by Einar Westye Egeberg, a prominent timber merchant, and his wife Birgitte Halvordine. As co-owner of Westye Egeberg & Co., the family, which had seven children, could afford this elaborate construction. With an area of 1600 square meters across two floors, complemented by a tower and an extensive park, it was considered Oslo's largest private residence. Construction costs amounted to twelve million kroner, utilizing high-quality materials such as granite and soapstone. Italian specialists adorned the interiors with stucco ceilings. Following his wife's death in 1930, Einar Egeberg sold the property to Bolig-Bygg AS, which subsequently converted the castle.
