Egeberg Castle
In Oslo's St. Hanshaugen district stands Egeberg Castle, a residence in the Italian Renaissance style.
History+
The construction of Egeberg Castle took place between 1899 and 1901, commissioned by Einar Westye Egeberg, a timber merchant, and his wife Birgitte Halvordine. As co-owner of Westye Egeberg & Co., the family, which had seven children, could afford this construction. With an area of 1600 square meters across two floors, complemented by a tower and an park, it was considered Oslo's largest private residence. Construction costs amounted to twelve million kroner, utilizing materials such as granite and soapstone. Italian specialists adorned the interiors with stucco ceilings. Following his wife's death in 1930, Einar Egeberg sold the property to Bolig-Bygg AS, which subsequently converted the castle.

Today, the former Egeberg Castle houses modern apartments. The original character of the building has been altered by the conversions, but its historical substance remains discernible.
