Eggendorf Castle

The first documented mention of Eggendorf dates back to 1224, when the brothers Ortolf and Heinrich von Egendorf were named as servants of Kremsmünster Abbey. They were followed by Knight Hermann von Eggendorf. The last of this line was Johann von Egendorf, who died as a clergyman without descendants in 1361. As early as 1330, the fief had passed to Engelschalk Moser from Weyer am Bach Castle, as Johann von Egendorf was not eligible for a fief as a priest. After further changes of ownership, including Otto Moser (1451) and Heinrich der Lew (1483), the property returned to Bernhard Moser in 1508. Jakob Ostermayr from Nördlingen acquired the estate, and Florian Ostermayr, a court judge in Garsten, had the old building demolished and the current castle erected in 1580. In 1633, Georg Nikolaus Pucher von Meggenhausen was the owner. From the mid-17th century, Eggendorf was united with the Hueb dominion. Count Christoph von Schallenberg acquired the castle in 1660, and his daughter Christine brought it as a dowry into her marriage with Johann Ludwig von Polheim. After further changes of ownership, including Count Max Spiller von Mitterberg (1698) and Georg Adam von Hoheneck (1709), the castle passed to Franz Ignaz Maierhofer in 1767. The Maierhofer family owned it until 1851, followed by Edmund Holenia. In 1885, it became the property of the Fischer von Ankern family and has been owned by antique dealer Jürgen Hesz since 1998.

Eggendorf Castle is located in the municipality of Eggendorf in the Linz-Land district, in Upper Austria, Austria. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 348 meters above sea level on a small hill within the village.
