Eggeringhausen Castle, an imposing three-winged structure with distinctive corner towers, is idyllically situated in Mellrich, North Rhine-Westphalia. The moated castle, whose fore-building is accessible via a bridge, is surrounded by an English park with a Swiss stable and bears witness to a long and eventful history.

History+

The first documented mention of Eggeringhausen dates back to 1181. In the 14th century, the former castle complex was located near today's Mellrich train station and was the ancestral seat of the Knights of Meldereke. In 1483, Noldecke von Mellrich sold the estate to Goddert zu Kettler. At the beginning of the 17th century, in 1603, the property passed into the possession of Count Johann von Ostfriesland und Rietberg.
