North of the old city center of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Ehrenthal Castle is situated on a terrace at the foot of the Ehrentaler Berg. It currently houses an educational institution and a museum.

History+

The first documented mention of the castle, then known as Wieltschnigg, dates back to 1645. At that time, it was owned by Johann Weber von Ehrental. Since 1953, the property has belonged to the State of Carinthia. Around 1720, Kilian Pittner created a stucco ceiling for the east hall, while Marx J. Pittner executed the stucco work on the window pediments of the facade and in the western room around 1760. A coat of arms of the Aichelburg family adorns the asymmetrically placed portal. During renovations in 1962, Baroque wall paintings from the Fromiller school, depicting scenes from Ovid's Metamorphoses, were destroyed.
