Ehrnau Castle

The origins of Ehrnau Castle are closely linked to the Ehrenfelser family, who erected fortifications in this valley in the 13th century. After the Ehrenfelser, the property passed to the Lords of Kraig, followed by Siegmund von Dietrichstein. The castle experienced a long period under the Counts Breuner, who held it from 1564 to 1822. During their rule, Mautern received market rights in 1633 through Maximilian Freiherr von Breuner. An event was the visit of Emperor Charles VI to Count Carl Adam von Breuner in 1728.
