Eichelbacher Hof Castle (Rod an der Weil)

The first mention of a medieval tower castle, protected by a hedge, dates to 1213. This complex served to protect the Rennstraße, a high-altitude road through the Taunus. The Reinberg zu Eichelbach family resided here from 1339 and remained in possession of the estate until their extinction in 1615. In the mid-14th century, the original tower castle lost its military significance and was demolished. In its place, a moated castle with four corner towers was built a little further south in the valley. In 1353, the castle was conquered by the robber knight Friedrich von Hattstein and occupied for four years. Siegfried von Reinberg managed to recapture his property in 1357.
