Eichenbarleben Castle

The origins of Eichenbarleben Castle date back to 1453, when it came into the possession of the von Alvensleben family. From 1565, Joachim I von Alvensleben from Erxleben established Eichenbarleben as an independent lordship and had it expanded into a castle complex with round corner towers for his youngest son. He also founded a Latin school there, which, however, was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. Post-war destruction necessitated the reconstruction of residential buildings and corner towers in 1654–1655. In the early 18th century, between 1701 and 1703, a new manor house was built, which still exists today. The Brunswick court architect Hermann Korb is said to have been involved in the design of some interiors with Rococo stucco. Helene von der Schulenburg, the builder's widow, had the corner tower by the gate and the adjacent building redesigned for herself.
