Eichhofen Castle, a historic building, is located in the Eichhofen district of Nittendorf, near Regensburg. It is one of the Hammer Castles, a type of country castle built from the 16th to the 18th century in the Upper Palatinate as residences for owners of hammer mills.

History+

The construction of Eichhofen Castle was completed in 1579 under Ambrosius Raiger. After his death, the estate passed to his grandson Hans Martin von Rosenbusch. In 1692, the brewhouse was rebuilt by Franz Wilhelm Freiherr von Rosenbusch. In the 19th century, under estate owners Anton von Schmaus and Freiherr von Axter, Eichhofen experienced a phase of industrialization. Schmaus continued the hammer mill and built a blast furnace in 1812. Axter added a nail factory, and from 1818, the production of mirror glass was established.
