In Kaulsdorf-Eichicht, in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt, Thuringia, Eichicht Castle stands on a steeply sloping mountain spur. Originally conceived as a medieval fortress, it served to protect the Saale river crossings and trade routes. Its location above the confluence of the Loquitz and Saale rivers made it a landmark of the area.

In 1331, the builders, the Lords of Eichhicht, were first mentioned in documents. The castle itself was first documented in 1383 as the seat of a Holbach zu Eichicht. A castle chapel is attested for the year 1464. It is believed that the complex suffered destruction during the Thirty Years' War. A reconstruction into the current castle took place in 1696, as evidenced by a year inscribed in a fireplace. In 1873, the castle's condition was described as dilapidated.
