In Angelbachtal, Eichtersheim Castle is a moated castle. Originally built in the 16th century, it acquired a Baroque form in the 18th century.

History+

The Lords of Venningen, who held Eichtersheim as a Palatinate hereditary fief, erected a manor house in a lowland of the Angelbach stream in the second half of the 16th century. Surrounded by a moat, the castle was always an uneven three-winged complex open towards the village. The exact dating of the building is complicated by the reuse of older components and indistinct inscriptions, with a coat of arms panel from 1510 or 1570 and a door frame from 1569 providing clues. Originally equipped with two towers, only one remains today. The castle received its Baroque appearance mainly through a renovation in 1767 under Carl Philipp von Venningen, who also added the grand staircase to the main portal and the interior staircase.
