Eickhof Castle

The history of the Eickhof estate took a turn after the division of the “Common Forest.” It came into the possession of Marbod von Kalm, the Chief Forester of Braunschweig, through purchase. At that time, Eickhof was an agricultural property with livestock. Marbod von Kalm expanded the estate by acquiring additional feudal estates and farms. However, having no interest in agriculture, he sold the lands in the Wesermarsch and instead acquired heath areas of the “Liebenau Forest,” which he had reforested. Thus, the former “Eickhofer Heide” became a forestry estate. After 1870, the current Eickhof Castle was built on the foundations of the old manor house, complemented by a castle garden, a nursery, and an outbuilding. Marbod von Kalm also established an estate cemetery around 1870, which is now a protected monument.
