A late Baroque moated castle is located in the Mechernich district of Eicks in the Euskirchen district, North Rhine-Westphalia. Its appeal lies in the combination of historical architecture and a waterside setting.

History+

The first mention of the dominion of Eicks dates back to 1344, when a fortified manor stood on this site. Johann von Eicks then held sway over a part of Eicks, which possessed its own jurisdiction. In 1365, the then moated castle suffered partial destruction. After the extinction of the Eicks comital family, the estate frequently changed hands through inheritance divisions and sales. In the 16th century, Jürgen von Syberg-Wischlingen acquired the area.
