Einsiedel Castle

Youth guesthouse of the Catholic Church

Einsiedel Castle, a historic structure from the 15th century, is located in the small settlement of Einsiedel, which belongs to the municipality of Kirchentellinsfurt. It represents the oldest preserved part of this settlement and currently serves as a youth guesthouse for the Catholic Church.

History+

Count Eberhard im Bart commissioned the construction of a three-story hunting lodge in Einsiedel in 1482. Concurrently, he founded the St. Peter Abbey for the Brothers of the Common Life, where he was laid to rest after his death in 1496. Tragically, both buildings were destroyed by fires: the abbey in 1550 and the hunting lodge, known for its famous hawthorn, in 1619. Duke Johann Friedrich initiated a partial restoration of the castle, which is why only a small remnant of Count Eberhard's original structure remains today.
