Ekolsund Castle

The origins of Ekolsund Castle date back to the 13th century, when a manor house stood on this site. Magnus Knutsson of the Aspenäsätten family was the first known owner. In the early 14th century, the estate came into the possession of Bengt Jönsson of the Oxenstierna family. In 1542, King Gustav Vasa acquired the castle. The current structure was built in the 17th century by the Tott family. In 1716, ownership transferred to Hereditary Prince Frederick of Hesse, who later became King Frederick I. Prince Gustav, later King Gustav III, purchased the castle in 1747 and sold it in 1785 to the merchant George Seton. His descendants retained the castle until 1912. In 1917, Director Carl Kempe acquired the estate and had it extensively restored between 1928 and 1930, subsequently residing there with his family. In 2002, Director Raija Axell Ohlin became the new owner.

Ekolsund Castle is situated in the locality of Ekolsund, within the municipality of Enköping in the Swedish region of Uppsala, at an elevation of approximately 25 meters above sea level.

Today, Ekolsund Castle functions as a hotel, offering guests the opportunity to stay in a historic setting. It is thus accessible to visitors and actively utilized.
