Elbroich Castle

In the Holthausen district of Düsseldorf, Elbroich Castle, a historic manor, now serves as a modern office location. Its origins date back a long way, even though much of its early history remains obscure due to the loss of its archives during World War II.

History+

The first known mention of the estate dates back to around 1189, when the Lords of Teveren sold the village of Düsseldorf and various estates, including the allod Elbroich, to the Counts of Berg. In the 15th century, ownership passed to the Lords of Eller. In 1589, Georg von Neuhoff acquired Elbroich for 6500 thalers. The castle's current appearance largely resulted from a new construction around 1600. Through marriage, the castle passed to the Counts von der Horst in 1679. Extensions and alterations were made in 1748, commemorated by a year number on the gate entrance.
