Elsenheim Castle, also known as Rehlingen Castle, is a building in the right side of Salzburg's Old Town. This small castle, constructed in the mid-15th century, has a stair tower and a flat hip roof adorned with small turrets.

History+

The origins of Elsenheim Castle date back to 1449, when it was built by Hans Elsenheimer, then a city judge and later mayor. The Elsenheimer family gave the estate its name. In 1662, the castle passed into the possession of the Lords of Rietz, before being inherited by the Barons of Rehlingen in 1681. This family initiated a renovation of the building in 1773. In 1862, Princess Sophie Arenberg acquired the castle. The fourth floor of the building once housed the studio of painter Franz Xaver von Pausinger, followed by the Salzburg artist Franz Jung-Ilsenenheim.
