Engelhof Castle

The property was first documented in the 13th century as a farm on the Ennsleiten or an estate on the Graben. In the early 16th century, it came into the possession of the Engel von Wagrain family, from whom the current name Engelhof likely derives. From 1543 onwards, the owners are almost completely documented. After the Zuvernumb (1543–1561) and Strasser (until 1604) families, Engelhof was elevated to a noble residence in 1625. In the 17th century, ownership changed frequently, including Georg Henkel von Donnersmark, Johann von Wendenstein, Ignaz Marienbaum von Homberg, and Gottlieb Schröffl von Mannsberg. From 1682 to 1773, the castle belonged to the Jesuits. After the dissolution of the order, it returned to the city of Steyr, which sold it to the Rienzhofer family in 1778. In 1837, Johann Nutzinger acquired the property, followed by other owners such as Franziska Schallmann and Johanna Nutzinger. Since 1887, the castle has been owned by the Reder family, who passed it on to Josef Reder in 1925 and still hold it today. In 1887, the castle underwent a Neo-Baroque redesign.
