Erdmannsdorf Castle

The castle's origins date back to 1160, when a defensive structure was built on this site. The manor was first documented in 1191 in connection with Werner de Ertmarsdorf, who is also considered the builder of Nidberg Castle near Zöblitz. The original spur castle had a diameter of about 30 to 40 meters. Although later conversions into a knight's estate and then a castle altered most of the medieval building fabric, the so-called Stone House, the oldest part of the castle, has been preserved. Medieval elements can also still be found in the cellar of the current castle. Former owners included the families of Erdmannsdorff, von Schütz, and von Könneritz. Under Hans Heinrich von Könneritz, the conversion to the present castle began in 1843, with an annex built in the Tudor Gothic style.
