To be privately owned

The first Erneck Castle on a hill was destroyed in the Landshut War of Succession in 1504. On the foundations of an old manor in the Hofmark, an extensive and representative castle complex was gradually built by the Paumgartner family in several stages starting in 1523. This was redesigned again by Johann Joseph Franz Albrecht Thaddäus Count von Paumgarten and completed in 1772. In 1883, the Counts of Paumgarten inhabited the castle, followed by the Barons of Lerchenfeld and then the Barons of Sedlnitzky. In 1946, the eldest daughter of the Barons of Sedlnitzky took over the castle after both sons had died in the Second World War. She had married Kasimir Count Esterházy de Galántha. The current owner of the Ering Castle Estate is Paul-Daniel Count Esterházy de Galántha.
