Erkersreuth Castle

The new castle was built in 1748 by the Lords of Lindenfelser. In 1800, Adam Carl von Lindenfels sold the Erkersreuth estate to the Prussian nobleman Theodor von Kretschmann (from 1801–1808 "Governing State Minister of the Principality of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld"). Kretschmann sold the property within ten years to commoners and his tenants. In 1811, Erkersreuth Castle passed into the possession of private individuals, the manufacturers Riedel from Klingenthal (until 1872) and Franz Wilfer from Haslau (from 1872 to 1899).

In 1879, Franz Wilfer leased a part of the castle building to the brothers Max and Philipp Rosenthal. With purchased white ware, the two began painting porcelain. This developed into the company Rosenthal AG. In 1899, the castle passed into the possession of the company Rauh und Ploß (former brewery in Selb) until 1953, which sold it to Rosenthal AG. Since 2009, Erkersreuth Castle has belonged to Rosenthal GmbH.
