Erwitte Castle

The site was first documented in 1273. The current moated castle was constructed at the beginning of the 17th century for Jobst von Landsberg zu Erwitte, close to the earlier structures. In the 19th century, it became the property of the Counts of Landsberg-Velen and Gemen, who sold it in 1934 to the National Socialist state. It was then used as a Reich training castle for the German Labour Front and the NSDAP, undergoing renovations and the construction of outbuildings under the direction of architect Julius Schulte-Frohlinde. After World War II, the castle housed a garrison and an orphanage. In 1976, the city of Erwitte acquired the property, before it was later bought by Manfred Green, owner of Haus Füchten, and operated as a hotel from 1999. Since 2006, the Feuerhahn family has owned the castle and developed the hotel into a 4-star establishment.
