Espasingen Castle

At the end of the 16th century, the Lords of Bodman began the construction of Espasingen Castle. Although documents were issued there as early as 1593, the castle was first mentioned in writing only in 1620. Following the destruction of their ancestral castle Altbodman on August 15, 1643, by French troops during the Thirty Years' War, the noble family relocated their residence to Espasingen Castle. Espasingen Castle itself was also destroyed in this war. Between 1682 and 1685, Hans von Bodman and his wife Maria Salome Schindelin von Unterraitenau had the castle rebuilt. It was not until 1760 that the family moved to Bodman Castle. Espasingen served as a manorial seat for almost 200 years. In 1839, the castle was converted into a brewery with an attached inn. A fire on March 28, 1892, destroyed large parts of the building.
