Essling Castle

The origins of the area where Essling Castle stands date back to 1287, when it was documented as a fief of the Lords of Eslarn. In 1579, ownership transferred to Baron von Teufel. An engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1672 already depicts the castle as a new construction. In 1722, it came into the possession of the Kinsky family, who undertook renovations and extensions. Later, in 1760, the castle belonged to Francis Stephen of Lorraine and in 1797 became part of the Habsburg family fund. During the Battle of Aspern in 1809, the castle suffered damage but was subsequently restored. Between 1988 and 1991, extensive adaptations and restorations were carried out.
