Etzelsdorf Castle

The exact construction period of the current castle is unknown, but it was built in the 17th century near an older predecessor. This earlier seat, dating back to the 12th century, was located behind the current castle and the Innbachtalstraße. Reports from 1558 describe it as a desolate castle site, presumably destroyed by fire around 1551. In the 14th century, Niklas der Eczelstorfferer was mentioned as administrator. Through marriage, the estate passed to Kaspar Jörger, and later to the Struz family. After an inheritance dispute, it went to Erasmus von Gera in 1563 and to Engel von Wagrain in 1590. In 1600, Josef Krenner acquired the predecessor building. After the Seeauers, the Schmidtauer von Oberwallsee took over the property in 1625. After looting during the Peasant War in 1626, the castle burned down.
