Eybesfeld Castle

The first documented mention of the region around Stangersdorf, which included the later castle grounds, dates back to 1138. Originally owned by the Counts of Eppenstein, the estates came into the possession of Rein Abbey through a donation. Over time, a farm known as Mallerhof developed into the present-day Eybesfeld Castle. A confirmed mention of Mallerhof dates back to 1571. In 1597, Caspar Breiner acquired Mallerhof after his father Gottfried Preiner had obtained the right of purchase from Rein Abbey in 1593. In 1618, Sigmund Friedrich von Trautmanstorf sold the farm to Wolf and Katharina Globitzer, who in turn sold it to Elias and Maria Hemeter in 1624. Gottfried Freiherr zu Eibiswald acquired Mallerhof in 1640. After a fire at the farmstead in 1637, he likely began construction of the castle. As early as 1635, he was granted a 'Burgfried' (a special jurisdiction) for his seat, then still called “Eggenwaldt”. From the 1640s onwards, the name “Eybesfeld” became established. In 1643, Gottfried Freiherr von Eibiswald united Klauberhof with Mallerhof. After his death in 1645, his son Carl Ludwig Freiherr von Eibiswald succeeded him, followed by Christoph Rudolf von Eibiswald as owner from 1653. His widow, Maria Margaritha von Eibiswald, sold the property to Anna Maria Gräfin Khißl in 1667. In 1675, the castle passed to Maria Elisabeth Gräfin von Trauttmannsdorff, followed by her cousin Maria Eleonore Gräfin Ursin-Rosenberg in 1694. By 1697 at the latest, Carl Ferdinand von Puechpäm became the new owner.
