Eyrichshof Castle, a historic moated castle in Bavaria, has been owned by the Barons von Rotenhan since the 14th century. The complex is located near the small town of Ebern and is still inhabited by the owning family.

History+

Eyrichshof was first documented in 1232, likely serving as a farmstead for the nearby Rotenhan Castle. After the ancestral castle of the Rotenhan family was destroyed by troops of the Würzburg bishop in 1323 and reconstruction was forbidden, the family relocated their seat. Around 1330/40, the estate in Eyrichshof was fortified and expanded into a moated castle. This initial castle was destroyed during the Peasants' War in 1525. Reconstruction began in 1533 and continued until around 1580. Under Sebastian II von Rotenhan, the current Renaissance complex was built.
