Fasanerie Castle (Eichenzell)

The castle's origins date back to the early 18th century, when a country manor was built around 1710 under Prince-Abbot Adalbert von Schleifras, likely under the direction of Johann Dientzenhofer. A first expansion took place from 1730 under Prince-Abbot Adolph von Dalberg. His additions still define the eastern end of the second castle courtyard today. The design was achieved by 1757 under Prince-Bishop Amand von Buseck, based on plans by court architect Andrea Gallasini. Until the mid-19th century, it served as a summer residence. After the Prussian annexation of Electoral Hesse, the property was initially expropriated but returned in 1878 to Landgrave Friedrich Wilhelm and served his wife, Princess Anna of Prussia, as a private residence until 1918. During World War II, the castle suffered damage.
