Fechenbach Castle

Fechenbach Castle in Dieburg is a small town castle where the Barons of Fechenbach lived from 1842 to 1939.

The building dates back to the seat of the noble knightly family of the Ulner von Dieburg. The castle has undergone various construction phases. The Renaissance building of Hartmann von Ulner, of which only cellar vaults remain and about whose construction little is known due to a lack of clues and documents, was replaced in 1717 by Pleikard von Ulner with a three-winged late Baroque castle. It is a single-story Baroque building with a mansard roof and a central dormer. At the main entrance above the grand staircase, in the broken triangular pediment, is the alliance coat of arms of the Ulner and the von Haxthausen. It is dated to 1717, as the year on the keystone of the portal proves. At a water gate on the Gersprenz not far from the castle is an interesting coat of arms stone of "HARTMAN VLNER VON DIEPVRGK ANNA VLLNERIN GEBORENE CRECZIN VON SCHARPFFENSTEIN", which originally belonged to the castle and is dated to 1564.

After the extinction of the Ulner male line in 1771, the property came into the possession of the von Dalberg family. Friedrich Wilhelm von Dalberg's daughter sold it in 1841 to Baron Friedrich Karl Joseph von Fechenbach. In 1860/1861, it was expanded by district architect Krauß in the (late) Neoclassical style. Until its sale to the city of Dieburg in 1939 by Karoline Freiin von Dieburg, members of the family lived here.
