The first documented mention of Feistritz Castle dates back to 1460, when Jakob de Fustritz was recorded as its first known owner. From 1630 onwards, the ownership of the castle has been continuously documented through a detailed chronicle. Since 1987, the estate has been owned by Christian Renaud.

Feistritz Castle is located in Langenwang-Feistritzberg in the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district of Styria, Austria. It stands at an elevation of approximately 623 meters above sea level.

Today, Feistritz Castle is surrounded by a publicly accessible 9-hole golf course, which was privately used until 1987. The castle itself and its accompanying park open their gates to the public during the first week of September, when the Week of Early Music has been held since 1989.
