Fellheim Castle
Fellheim Castle is located in the municipality of Fellheim in the district of Unterallgäu in Bavaria. It is a protected monument.
The first construction of the castle dates back to 1557 and was built by Sebastian Reichlin von Meldegg as a Kempten fief. In 1633, the castle was destroyed and rebuilt starting in 1635. In the second half of the 18th century, alterations were made to the castle. The castle chapel was rebuilt in 1773.
The castle is located in the middle of the municipality of Fellheim and is designed as a three-story plastered building. The castle is covered with a hip roof. At all four corners of the castle are octagonal towers, which are covered with an onion dome. The hip roof is topped with a roof turret, also with an onion dome, on the ridge. On the north side of the castle are the former farm buildings. These are built in three wings around the courtyard.
Castle Chapel+
The castle chapel is dedicated to John of Nepomuk and is located in the southern part of the west wing. The square room, on whose east wall there is a lord's box, is provided with a barrel vault. The rectangular altar room adjoins through a depressed chancel arch. This is flatly rounded on the south side and has windows with a curved lintel. The altar consists of a marbled wooden structure and was created around 1773. The curved tabernacle is the base for the altarpiece. On this, St. John Nepomuk is depicted. The altar is surrounded by free-standing columns and volutes. The ceiling painting of the castle chapel, according to tradition, depicts the death of St. Marquard in a battle scene and was created around 1773. In the castle chapel there is an epitaph made of Solnhofen stone for Adolf Reichlin von Meldegg († 1797). This is marked with M. Schuler fecit.
