Fenin Castle

To be privately owned

Château Fenin, a remarkable late Gothic manor, rises in the picturesque landscape of Fenin in the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. With its two characteristic corner turrets and detailed architecture, it bears witness to a rich history and former splendor.

History+

The origins of Château Fenin date back to 1561, when Hugues Clerc initiated the construction of this imposing estate. Around 1615, ownership passed to the influential de Meuron family, who used the château as a summer residence for centuries. The main gate in the northeast tower, also dated 1561, is particularly noteworthy. Above this gate sits a fantastic animal figure, reminiscent of a dog or lion, seemingly guarding the entrance. Inside the tower, vibrant, colorful frescoes with floral motifs and depictions of birds or people can be found, including a Tyrolean playing a guitar and smoking a pipe. In the inner corridor of the first floor, artistic quatrains by Pibrac are also visible in black on white plaster. To this day, the château remains in the possession of descendants of the de Meuron family.
