Ferlach Castle

The origins of Ferlach Castle date back to the first half of the 16th century, when it was erected as a simple hall-floor house. The exact identity of the builder is not known, but it is presumed to have been Thomas Tifrer, the first operator of the Ferlach hammer mills, or the Locatelli merchant family. In 1692, the property passed into the possession of the Huebmershoffen family, who from 1738 called themselves “von Silbernagl.” Ignaz Freiherr von Silbernagl initiated a redesign and expansion of the building around 1780, giving it its current late Baroque form.
