In the Ammerland district in Lower Saxony, Germany, lies Fikensolt Castle. This moated castle, once the ancestral seat of the Lords of Fikensolt, now presents itself as a Baroque manor house, built on the foundations of an older castle complex.

The origins of Fikensolt date back a long way, as it was the former seat of the Lords of Fikensolt. 1457, the “Battle of Fikensolt and Mansingen” took place nearby. In this conflict, Oldenburg counts clashed with East Frisian chieftains and secured supremacy in North Oldenburg. The current moated castle was built as a Baroque manor house in the second half of the 18th century, replacing an earlier castle complex of the Knights of Fikensolt.
