Finkenau Castle

The origins of Finkenau date back to 1418, when the Finkenmühle (Finken Mill) was first documented. In the mid-15th century, the Lords of Rosenau took over the property and developed it into a knight's estate with a manor house over the following decades. In 1609, the entire estate passed to the Lords of Streitberg, who also reacquired the mill. Duke Johann Casimir declared the knight's estate an allod in 1612, guaranteeing the Streitbergs free ownership. In 1634, the Finkenau knight's estate and nearby Ahorn were devastated by imperial troops. Until the 18th century, Finkenau served as an outwork of the Ahorn property. In the mid-18th century, the court councillors Grüner and Christ were joint owners. A 1791 plan referred to the manor house as a Kastrum, a fortified noble residence.
