Fischau Castle
Fischau Castle is a historic building in Bad Fischau-Brunn.
The history of Fischau Castle's origins is not recorded in documents. The predecessor of the castle was the so-called "fortified house". The "fortified house" dates from the middle of the 12th century and was a small, fortified complex. Members of the Starhemberg family appear as lords, as documents from the 12th century state. In the 13th and 14th centuries, it was owned by the Teuffenbach family. In 1561, the Counts of Heussenstein were granted the castle by Emperor Ferdinand I with a mortgage deed, and acquired it by purchase in 1577. The noble family of the Counts Heussenstein, sometimes also called Heussenstamm, owned the dominion and the castle from 1577 to 1817. A major renovation took place in 1728.
Under Archduke Rainer, a renovation took place in 1830, which gave the castle its current appearance. From 1999 to 2003, the castle was completely renovated.
Current Use+
Fischau Castle today houses the cultural association Forum Bad Fischau. This association organizes cultural activities such as concerts and exhibitions and offers workshops in the creative field. Particularly noteworthy is the "Fischauer Klangbogen", a concert series held both in the castle and in the castle park, which is designed as a sculpture park. Furthermore, the Blaugelbe Viertelsgalerie Industrieviertel and the Kulturvernetzung Industrieviertel are located here.
