Forchheim Castle
Schloss Forchheim+
Forchheim is located in the central Ore Mountains not far from Olbernhau. The place is first mentioned in a document in 1299 as "Wrcheim". The castle was built in 1558 as the manor house of the "lower knight's estate" with a Renaissance portal. However, neo-Gothic style elements are also present. In 1559, the lords of Berbisdorf settled here. In 1818, Nieder- and Oberforchheim were auctioned off. Under Gustav Heinrich Freiherr von Biedermann, the knight's estate Niederforchheim became the seat of the district administration of the third Ore Mountains district from July 1819. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Later, the building served as a daycare center. Today it is in private ownership. Unfortunately, the castle cannot be visited. Nevertheless, it is worth hiking on the nature trail from the castle towards the Saidenbach dam.
