Frauenfeld Castle

Frauenfeld Castle is located in the south of Frauenfeld's old town, above the banks of the Murg river. The 19 m high keep, built of large-format masonry, was erected in the first third of the 13th century; further additions were made in the 14th century. The castle stood within the city wall but was separated by a moat.

At least since 1286, the tower belonged to the Knights of Frauenfeld-Wiesendangen, who at that time were already under Habsburg rule. In the late 14th century, the castle passed into the possession of the Landenbergers, with whom it remained until 1534.
