Fraunberg Castle

The origins of Fraunberg Castle date back to before the year 1000, featuring a complex that already had a double moat ring. The actual construction of the castle is presumed to have taken place in the 13th century. Since its erection, it has remained continuously in the possession of the baronial family of Fraunberg. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle suffered looting and damage. Under Victor von Fraunberg, reconstruction took place in 1683, with some stucco ceilings from this period still preserved in certain interior rooms today. In recent times, the castle has undergone extensive interior and exterior restoration.
