Fraunberg Castle

Fraunberg Castle is a two-story complex with a medieval moat. It is surrounded by a small park and a castle wall. The building, located in the municipality of Fraunberg in the district of Erding, is one of the oldest moated castles in Bavaria. Parts of the house foundations, the surrounding wall, and the keep still date from the Middle Ages.

The complex with a double moat ring dates back to before the year 1000 AD. The castle was probably built in the 13th century. Since its foundation, the castle, which is actually a fortress, has been owned by the baronial family of Fraunberg. During the Thirty Years' War, it was plundered and severely damaged. In 1683, the complex was rebuilt. The builder was Victor von Fraunberg. In the recent past, a fundamental interior and exterior renovation took place. In some rooms, stucco ceilings from the construction period of 1683 are still preserved.
