Freiham Castle

The first documented mention of Freiham, then as "villa Frihaim," dates back to 1136. Ownership of the estate changed hands multiple times, often among Munich patrician families. In 1679, Freiham was elevated to a noble seat, and in 1680, the current castle was built in its original form. After the builder's lineage died out, the estate passed to the Ridler Monastery in Munich. From 1785, the property served as the main residence of the Counts of Yrsch for four generations. They had the castle rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style between 1865 and 1866.
