Freisaal Castle is a moated castle situated in a pond in the south of Salzburg, Austria. Its history dates back to the late Middle Ages, and it once served as a country residence for prince-archbishops.

The first documented mention of Freisaal Castle was in 1392. It was already used by Prince-Archbishop Pilgrim II von Puchheim as a pleasure house and maintained its importance as a country estate for subsequent prince-archbishops. Freisaal played a role in the enthronement of new archbishops, as they received the insignia of their secular power here before making their entry into the city. In 1549, under the designated Archbishop Ernst von Bayern, a new building was constructed in the Mannerist style, transforming the castle into a moated castle.
