Freudenberg Castle, originally conceived as a country house, is an impressive estate near Rotkreuz in the canton of Zug, Switzerland. It was built between 1929 and 1933 and is perched on a gentle hill with picturesque views of Lake Zug.
History+
The creation of Freudenberg Castle dates back to General Director Erwin Hürlimann, who had a sprawling country estate built on the grounds of a former farm. For himself and his English wife Eleanor, née Ridge, he commissioned British architects Howard M. Robertson and J. Murray Easton to plan the castle, while Russell Page designed the gardens. To optimize the building site, the old country road from Buonas to Cham was even relocated inland.
