Auersperg High School Passau-Freudenhain

Within the city of Passau rises Freudenhain Castle, an early classical building. Originally conceived as a summer residence, it now serves as an educational institution and is an example of late 18th-century architecture in Bavaria.

History+

The construction of Freudenhain Castle took place between 1785 and 1792, commissioned by the Prince-Bishop of Passau, Cardinal Joseph Franz Anton Graf von Auersperg. Johann Georg von Hagenauer was responsible as the architect and master builder. The castle's name derives from the former English park that surrounded it, the heart of which was an artificial village, the Holländerdörferl. In 1803, during the secularization, the estate became property of the Bavarian state.
