In the west of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Freyenthurn Castle stands on the southern slope of the Falkenberg. Originally built in Renaissance style, it acquired its current appearance with numerous bay windows and towers in Tudor style at the end of the 19th century.

The origins of Freyenthurn Castle date back to 1541, when Hans Angerer, King Ferdinand I's court paymaster, had the tower-like residence built in a castle-like Renaissance style. Angerer was subsequently permitted to add the predicate "zu Freyenthurn" to his name. At the end of the 16th century, it passed to Sebaldus Feulner, who henceforth called himself Sebald von Staudach nach Freyenthurn. In 1670, Imperial Count Johann Wilhelm Attems acquired the property. Other owners included Johann Andreas Sauer Graf von Ankenstein, Michael von Thalheim, and Andreas Lorenz von Vierengl.
