In the Friedersdorf district of Neusalza-Spremberg in the Görlitz district, Saxony, is Friedersdorf Castle, a Neo-Baroque structure with Rococo elements. It was built in the late 19th century as a manor house for a knight's estate and now serves as a retirement home.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to a medieval moated castle, which was later replaced by a half-timbered manor house. Between 1887 and 1889, the Royal Saxon Chamberlain Hans Leo von Oppell had the current Friedersdorf Castle built. The Dresden architect Heinrich Schubert designed the building in Neo-Baroque style with Rococo decorative elements.
