Fröhstockheim Castle

Since Fuchs von Stockheim was mentioned as early as 1220, there may have already been a contemporary residential complex. When the moated castle was built is not known. In 1525, the castle was destroyed in the Peasants' War and rebuilt in 1531 by Wolff von Crailsheim. The rectangular building with corner towers, arranged around an inner courtyard, makes a formidable and imposing impression.

In 1576, the castle was inherited by the Lords of Fechenbach. In 1714, the castle was sold to the Teutonic Order. In 1806, the castle became Bavarian property. In 1830, the castle was acquired by the Counts of Reigersberg. In 1958, the castle was sold to the community of Stockheim. Today, the castle is privately owned and inhabited.

The castle is a rectangular complex with four corner towers and a central courtyard. The main building has three floors and a hipped roof. The facades are plastered and have sandstone window frames. The corner towers have four floors and pointed helmets. The courtyard is surrounded by arcades on the ground floor.

The castle is surrounded by a moat, which is fed by the nearby stream. A stone bridge leads over the moat to the main entrance. The castle is a listed building and is considered one of the most important Renaissance castles in Franconia.

The castle is privately owned and inhabited. It is not open to the public. However, the exterior can be viewed from the public road.
